Chorvátsky Grob, Slovakia
study 2024
In collaboration with tiarstudio.
We decided to portray Dr. Josip Andrić’s square in Croatian Grob, village near Bratislava, as a living band that connects municipal office with local church. There is a pavilion in the living band that serves as a public transport stop and a stage for smaller events. In addition to the band, two other spaces will be created in the area. The first is a square, a mostly paved area, in front of the municipal building, which will be used for various events. On the other hand, in front of the church, we propose an area with a greater concentration of trees, which will be designed as a park.
We divided the current confusing intersection into two parts, which created two new intersections of three roads, and traffic will thus slow down at this intersection and prioritize pedestrians. We diverted one of the side residential streets further away from this area, thanks to which a larger space was created for the park in front of the church. The area where the main road passes perpendicularly through the band is also proposed to be covered with paving, which contributes to the preservation of the architectural intent and the optical definition of the change in roadway material. This should encourage drivers to be more careful on this area.
