SQUARE IN ŽAMBERK

The concept for Masaryk Square in Žamberk is based on the main axes that run through the town’s overall urban design. We are building on the resulting grid, enhancing it with various features at its intersections and integrating both existing and new trees into it. We are striving to return the square to pedestrians as much as possible. We have closed off the road in front of the town hall, creating a safe space that does not need to be closed off for various types of events.

In the central part of the square, in addition to the trees which will provide pleasant shade, we propose installing a multifunctional canopy that can be used for various events and farmers’ markets, whilst also serving as a bus stop that frames the plague column, which ultimately dominates the entire square and upon which the whole design concept is based.

In the south-western part, we propose a potential new building designed to make the most of and open up the views of the valley to the public. Similarly, within the conceptual area, we propose the placement of a building to complement the street frontage. At ground level, we aim to open up both buildings as much as possible, thereby providing unobstructed passage for pedestrians, as well as spaces for a café or various other commercial activities.
